MEET SARAH

In 2021, I logged trail time, working toward the goal of hiking 500 miles! This nearly doubled my 265 miles hiked in 2020. What will 2022 have in store? Stay tuned to find out!

Hey! I'm Sarah Carr, an adventuress based in Pittsburgh, PA with a passion for travel, outdoor adventure, and environmentally conscious living. Starting an adventure blog is a long time dream, and I'm so glad you've found Wildly Sarah! Here, I'll share stories from my travels along with inspiration and empowerment for adventures of your own!

Growing up in Pittsburgh, Frick Park was my backyard. I spent a lot of time in nature getting dirty, digging for worms, catching crawfish, and even started my own Nature Club with friends. Summertime meant road tripping from city to city in my Dad's minivan. The wanderlust was born!

I've spent a lot of time traveling the U.S. and beyond, and especially love time spent with friends in the Pacific Northwest and visiting the National Parks. In the fall of 2020, my dog Portland and I completed a cross country road trip, driving nearly 8,000 miles in 27 days, camping, hiking, blogging and spending time with family and friends along the way. You'll find the full story of our journey in the Blog section of this site! Another one of my favorite adventures was in January 2019, when a friend and I visited Utah's "Big 5" National Parks in three days during the government shut down. When I travel, you'll find me on more than just trails. Visiting local breweries and restaurants, finding roadside oddities, and elegant craft cocktail bars are the highlight after a day in nature. I love switching between hiking boots and a dress and sandals!

Staying active and training are important to being prepared for adventure. I practice yoga daily with over 1,400 days and counting, and am always up for a challenge or trying a new sport. I've taught aerial silks in the past and some days I think it's easier to ruck than run. When I'm not traveling, you'll find me staying active by running, hiking, and visiting an indoor climbing gym. Long walks with my dog, Portland, are also a great way to keep moving and dream up new adventures!

In 2013, I got my first taste of adventure blogging (the dream job) when my work with a trail development nonprofit gave me the opportunity to bike 335 miles from Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh and blog the experience of a novice cyclist in A Week on Two Wheels. The experience was so rewarding, giving me the opportunity to meet and hear from so many people that wanted to complete a thru-ride, but felt that it was out of reach. It was an honor to inspire them. I believe that everyone should live the adventurous life of their dreams -- safely! Create your own magic! Know your own ability, and don't allow fear and excuses to keep you from getting out there.

In March 2020, when COVID hit, I was laid off from my work as an events manager, and like so many others that found themselves suddenly out of work. I stayed active throughout quarantine, finding ways to get outside, hike, and travel safely. I believe in the power of positivity, and although it was anything but easy or predictable, I believe it was the right time to follow a dream.

I currently work at 3 Rivers Outdoor Company, a small, independently owned gear shop in Pittsburgh's East End, gaining gear knowledge, friendships and promoting outdoor lifestyle and exploration in the Pittsburgh region and beyond. I have had the amazing opportunity to plan events for the community and to start leading a series of hikes out of the shop. I can't wait to see where the road & trail take me next!

Big things & good things are coming! I hope you'll join me.
